- Aug 02, 2019 Prahlad Friedman is a man apart from the poker industry. While many young players have trodden the familiar path of gaining reputations based on their online play, many legends of the game cut their teeth at the live felt. Friedman falls between those two stalls.
Prahlad Friedman (born May 20, 1979) is an American professional poker player from Los Angeles, California. Friedman won a World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet in 2003 in the $1,500 pot limit hold'em event earning him $109,400. Later, at the WSOP circuit event at Harrah's Rincon in 2005, he won the second place prize of $363,165.
Final table, heads up, with the blinds at 60,000-120,000 and a 20,000 ante, Schaffel raised to 300,000 from the button, Friedman reraised to 800,000 form the big blind, Schaffel reraised all in, Friedman called.
Analysis
Schaffel had managed to close the gap on Friedman’s initial chip lead, now possessing a stack of 29 big blinds against Friedman’s stack of 41. Unfortunately, Schaffel failed to give a reraise out of the big blind its due and busted out 20 hands into the heads-up portion of the tournament. While there is an emerging trend to reraise lighter out of the big blind heads up, the majority of the time, such a reraise reliably indicates strength. Friedman’s hand was strong enough to sustain the reraise, and his call made him a 3-2 favorite to win the title. Schaffel sacrificed his post-flop positional advantage in an unsuccessful bid to further close the gap and end the hand preflop, but he finished runner-up for $471,670 when he was unable to pair either of his live cards. He will return to the felt in November at the Rio in the 2009 WSOP, where he is in sixth chip position among the November Nine. Friedman captured his first WPT title and $1,009,400, along with a $25,000 seat in the WPT Championship event. He is rumored to be joining forces with Chad Batista and Jeff Madsen to form an all-Caucasian rap trio touring under the moniker of “Creme Fraiche.”
